Born into poverty in the town of Newport News, Virginia (1917) - Ella Fitzgerald (IMO) ranks right up there as being one of the greatest, female, jazz vocalists of all time.
A multiple music-award winner - Ella's career as a singer began in 1935 when she was just 17. Her career spanned for 50 years.
This top-notch "Rodgers & Hart Songbook" compilation is a 2-disc set containing 35 tracks in all which were recorded by Ella (along with accompanying musicians) in 1956.
Two of my favourite tracks are - "My Funny Valentine" and " Bewitched".
*Note* - In 1996 - Ella Fitzgerald (79 at the time) died due to extremely poor health.
