Rules for Being a Girl is such a great book, a definite must-read for me. The main character Marin is strongly developed and takes the reader through the story and what it's like to be in her shoes of a 17-year-old girl who was taken advantage of by a young teacher at her school. Throughout the story, she realizes how much of a double standard there is at her school and in general and how much sexism there is in society and how people think it's okay. She begins to stand up for herself and how the "rules for being a girl" is a clear double standard that exists for women every day based on not only their gender but race, class, and sexual orientation. Personally, it inspired me and explained what being a feminist is about and I recommend reading this book.
