I read a LOT of Seattle-area history books. Sadly many are without sources listed or based on hearsay from only one source. All sources for this book are clearly listed in academic style, If you are interested in the true story of the native history of Seattle from pre-history through modern times, this is a reliable resource. Though sometimes I wish the author would be more concise. If you would like to learn about Seattle beyond the tired (and often untrue) stories of the official white pioneer settlers, this is the right book. Once your curiousity has gotten stirred up, you can search images. maps, etc. at www.dp.la or read the many excellent works cited. Also, if you get permission from the Seattle Museum of History and Industry (MoHaI) you can look at the original photo albums of the pioneers. Such items are stored in the MOHAI warehouse/library in Georgetown. The Duwamish Tribe has the archaelogist reports on the ancient (about 1400 year old) village which has been located along the Duwamish River across the street from the Duwamish Longhouse. Visit the international historic site and the tribal longhouse. Info at www.duwamishtribe.org.
