I saw this movie upon its theatrical release in 1976. I was in seventh grade. It absolutely terrified me, particularly the scenes with the chauffeur played by Anthony James (be sure to watch the interview with Anthony James, also the one with child star Lee Montgomery, which is part of the DVD "Extras"). While there was no terror felt this time around (over 40 years later), there was an immense appreciation for the acting of Bette Davis, Karen Black and Oliver Reed. After seeing BURNT OFFERINGS you'll want to go on an Oliver Reed movie binge. There is also a deeper understanding, having lived in 100-plus-year-old buildings for a good portion of my life, about giving one's entire being up to the old homestead.
