I had avoided "The Big Chill" for years but decided to find out what all the excitement was about. It wasn't as enjoyable as I had anticipated, but it was a well made film. I love ensemble casts and this one didn't disappoint. I wish they had at least shown Kevin Costner's character (Alex) instead of just mourning his death throughout the movie. That would have made it more moving had we had some insight into who he really was. The acting was very good, but there were some moments that felt overplayed (ie: Glenn Close's character's reaction to Alex's death) without any real explanation. "Big Chill" came out in 1983, while I was still in high school, so that might explain why it took me so long to finally watch it. Some reviewers feel that the movie is dated, but I disagree. It's perfect if you want a "grown up" John Hughes-type movie.
