Stephen King's great detail within this fiction novel is very compelling and eyes opening to read even further to see what happens next. This psychological horror book focuses on a family and their strong thoughts and emotions on each other while in close quarters, with each chapter written in a different point of view which really engaged me as the reader with the novel. As it enabled me to understand more about what each character is thinking and why they act or say the things that they do. The language that King uses is very distinctive between each character which makes the characters feel more realistic and eliminates any confusion on who is who. I would recommend reading the novel over watching The Shining movie as there are some major changes in motives, personalities, plot and scenes. @SmushedMushrooms of the Teen Review Board a the Hamilton Public Library Once again, Stephen King strikes us with yet another phenomenal novel. Be warned, if you read this book you will be scared for months. As Danny’s visions become more gruesome and as Jack still cannot cure his writer’s block, the dark secrets of the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado begin to unravel. I found the book a bit violent because of the extreme anger and aggression that lurks inside a couple of the characters. Personally, I did not enjoy this book too much since I found it too frightening. This novel would be suitable for young adults and older. @grumpykat of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library I can’t believe how captivating this novel was. Every single chapter had suspense and fear flowing through my veins. The Shining by Stephen King is a great psychological thriller. It is also a fantastic example of what Stephen King is all about. He is all about keeping whoever dares to read his novels on the edge of there seat every time one of his novels is to be picked up. I love the setting in this novel. The Overlook Hotel is a perfect place for creepy, twisted events to occur and does Stephen King ever take advantage of this. You can really feel the main character’s (Jack Torrance’s) guilt and frustration turn into rage. With this rage comes absolute suspense and terror. The images that appear in my mind when I read particular passages within this novel amaze me at how well written they are. I can picture parts of this novel perfectly. With all of this being said, you should definitely place a hold on Stephen King’s The Shining whenever you get the opportunity. An easy five star read! @BlingThrash15 of The Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board
