Loved this film! Found it hard to believe when I checked later that it lasted for two and a half hours. Norton wrote the screenplay, starred, and directed. Wonderful movie.

Absolutely a waste of precious time, especially during this pandemic.Made it thru a half an hour.No stars, stupid satire of the 1950's.Even Bruce Willis's minor appearance at beginning of the movie could not save this disaster.

I absolutely loved this movie! Had thought it was going to be about mental illness in the 1950's but was so much more! Edward Norton had a starring, stand-out performance in it. I also found out, by watching right to the end through some of the credits, that he wrote, directed, and produced the picture. Highly recommend it!

In this big city movie the character Lionel has a brilliant memory despite having Tourette's syndrome. Anyone disgusted by symptoms of this disease seems not to accept people with it. Ed Norton has acted in unusual roles before and does a good job with this script. Bruce Willis with the same quirky smile he's well remembered for, is short lived here. His girlfriend is a little too hard hearted to be realistic. Alec Baldwin plays the bad guy here and has a large dialogue to remember, hats off to him! William Defoe does a good job with his role. The director and producer could've done a better job with his dress and his character could've been a little less sleazy considering he was one of the good guys. All the other actors were great and the bluesy horn and jazz music really set the mood. This was a longer movie but kept our interest. -Satisfying conclusion.

1* Awful amateurish movie. More like watching a cartoon and its silliness.

Beware, Norton really swung for the fences here. He failed to learn the lesson of Tugg Speedman in Happy Jack and it's painful to watch.

The protagonist's ticking and twitching actions and saying "If" a number of times play as distractions.
The movie appears gratuitously complicated and too long for such a simple story.

If you like Edward norton you will love this. This is a story that is complex and longer than most films at 144 minutes. It is rich in details. It does remind me of the movie The Goldfinch, which is detail rich and complex. If you like that sort of movie that makes you think and feel, this it a goodie. It is based on some history of new york city and the housing crisis where people were taken advantage of with little recourse. It is

***Spoiler Alert*** Below are bits of an exchange between Paul Lieberman and Lionel Essrog... not all in IMDb:

But I saw the truth on her face and his, the way he looked at her.
I invoked every principle and value that we had been raised to champion.
But to serve people, you have to love people.
This phony "man of the people." When someone isn't seen for what they truly are, that's a very dangerous thing.
Satisfaction won't unburden a tortured heart.
