After Mary Poppins departed London, Jane and Michael Banks grew up into loving and responsible adults. When Michael becomes a single father of three children after the death of his wife, Mary Poppins revisits the Cherry Tree Lane home again to try to help Michael and his family cope and move beyond their grief. Time passes quickly for most normal mortals. Mary Poppins has never been normal. Although it's now the 1930s, she looks exactly the same. Her message to Michael, Annabel, John, George and Ellen, the family's housekeeper, about enjoying life and loved ones is also still the same.

2019.... Sequels sometimes really MISS the mark and flop. This was an OK sequel; a lot of remembrances to the original but the same story. Except with bad guys. The classic 1964 was spectacular with the songs that most baby boomers remember. I thought MICHAEL was miscast and the actress playing his sister Jane was fifteen PLUS yrs. OLDER than what she should have been. Sorry. I found it forgettable. Plus it was filmed rather darkly in fog, low light, etc. Remember the original how bright, well lighted it happy and cheerful? Nice to see Dick Van Dyke again dancing at 93. The movie had NO spark of consciousness for me.

This is a movie that I really wanted to love and really, really didn't like at all. Despite the singing and dancing, I couldn't get into it at all. Okay so I'm partial to the Julie Andrews classic, but in all honesty I just found this to be lackluster. I tried watching it twice and both times I fell asleep or lost interest. Sorry Emily, you are no Mary Poppins. And don't get me started on the fact that Burt wasn't in this at all. The character they "substituted" couldn't hold a candle to Dick Van Dyke. Lastly they made a very poor choice in casting adult Michael. Gone is the sweet little boy replaced by a grumpy man. The only thing this film did for me was made me appreciate the original even more.

Emily Blunt had big shoes to fill and she did it! The songs weren't as catchy in this sequel but the characters, story and actors were just as lovable as the first Mary Poppins. Everyone in our family found this movie a real delight!
