Highlighted four problem authors & how they created golden age of science fiction.
Think frustrated writer turned editor John W. Campbell as today's James Patterson who gives out plot outlines for junior partners to write ,but add a Messiah complex after A-bomb 1945 news & hardening racist misogynistic attitude to boot. His hero in swashbuckling adventures formula of the late 30s to 1950s went passe as New Wave, the anti-hero & counterculture swept in. Oh, he turned science fiction from fringe to more mainstream industry. However, he alienated many authors as they evolved & wised up.
Other three authors have problems. Asimov with skirt chasing, Heinlein with his political views & Hubbard's worst version of himself after less than stellar military career, creating a religion & trouble with the government.
Author dug out the hidden contributions of females from Campbell's first wife, Campbell's secretary to Heinlein's first wife.
Never thought DAW as yesteryear's version of troll.
