At sixteen, Angela Wong disappeared without a trace. Fourteen years later, her remains are discovered in the woods near the childhood home of Georgina Shaw, her best friend. Kaiser Brody, now a detective with Seattle PD, learns Angela was a victim of Calvin James, who murdered at least three other women. To the authorities, Calvin is a serial killer. But in high school, Calvin was Geo's first love, their relationship often volatile and bordering on obsession. Geo knew what happened to Angela-- and told no one; she is arrested and sent to prison. But there are dark secrets buried deep-- and new bodies are beginning to turn up.

Add a CommentReally a 1-star but have to give it 2 since I never considered not finishing because I wanted to see how it all turned out. And if an author can achieve that, it's not fair if I totally pan the book. I had lots of hopes for this thriller based on recs from other readers, but it's really a pretty junky, poorly written mess. I don't read thrillers for their depth or realism, but a good psychological thriller doesn't require the utter suspension of disbelief that this did. And my reward for finishing was a ludicrous, laughable ending. Oh, well.
From the very beginning, I wondered what the title had meant. After finishing the book, I have to say that now I know and I think it's a clever title.
As far as the story is concerned - rather average. We know what happened and who did it from the very start. I kept reading the book, hoping for more mystery but didn't really get it. It was a rather boring tale up until the end. Then, you kind of can see the ending coming. Disappointing.
The high reviews for this book leave me scratching my head. It is overly dark, overly graphic, contains no likable characters and a completely unbelievable storyline. I read a lot and mostly of this genre but this one is not for me.
This expertly written and wonderfully narrated psychological thriller is definitely a dark and gritty read. Follow these well developed characters through harrowing circumstances and experience the dynamic storytelling and often too vivid scenes. I love a dark book and this was a surprise gem.
It had a scripted feel of Seven and Jeffrey Deaver’s Bone Collector combined. I read it in two days.
What a page turner! A really good read; though serious trigger warning.

Dark, disturbing and chilling - now that’s what I call a psychological thriller
At sixteen, Geo, Angela and Kaiser are best friends...inseparable until Calvin James enters their lives and changes everything - and not for the better. Fourteen years later, Geo and Calvin are each sent to prison for their roles in Angela’s death….but what really happened that night, all those years ago?
Angela pays for her crime by spending 5 years in a maximum security prison...but what did she really do? And who is out there, waiting patiently for her to be free so that she can be made to pay again and again?
Pros: These pages turned themselves, I swear. This one is impossible to put down.
Cons: Quite disturbing...may not be appealing to all readers.
One of the best thrillers I have ever read, can’t wait to check out another book by Jennifer Hillier!
5 stars
The author has a real knack for keeping the reader oscillating between hating the main character and rooting for her in this dark and well-constructed suspense novel. Geo goes to jail for her complicity in her boyfriend's murder of her high school best friend. And then that said boyfriend later becomes a serial killer. Yikes. Lots to keep you guessing and wondering in this atmospheric novel.
thought it was very good finished it an a day and a half
This was a good steady fast read. I did see a hint of where it was going about half way through. Also the editer should have checked this just a smidge better cuz theres some errors in the printing.
