After over one hundred years of service, the Yankee Pedlar Inn is shutting its doors for good. The last remaining employees, Claire and Luke, are determined to uncover proof of what many believe to be one of New England's most haunted hotels. As the Inn's final days draw near, odd guests check in as the pair of minimum wage "ghost hunters" begin to experience strange and alarming events that may ultimately cause them to be mere footnotes in the hotel's long unexplained history.

Quaint, enchanting, cute - these aren't words normally associated with films about a haunting, but they are more than apt for describing The Innkeepers. If you're wondering if this can even be considered a horror movie, I can assure you that it does earn its horror chops when all is said and done. What I took away from the movie, though, was a rather poignant sense of melancholy. You aren't going to find many horror films that run you through such a gamut of emotions as this one. It's an unconventional but really impressive piece of work from writer/director Ti West.

I like this movie- is it the greatest Horror film ever made?- no- but it's an enjoyable, minor key film with a few genuine scares.

Writer/director Ti West doesn’t have much to add to the standard haunted house story; all the usual jolts and shocks are there as well as a few well placed frissons (a medium’s warning to avoid the basement is taken as an open invitation, naturally). But despite a lacklustre script and mediocre performances there is a mounting tension here which relies more on creepy staging than blood-soaked bodies and rubber masks. Like a good campfire tale you know it’s all nonsense even as you sneak glances over your shoulder just to be sure. Standard issue spookiness, however I must admit that while watching "The Innkeepers" in bed...alone...in the dark...I found myself turning the light on for the last 20 minutes.

It's not bad, but it's not great. The earlier film by this director, "House of the Devil," is much better and scarier.

God, this was a terrible movie! I ended fast-forwarding through most of it just to get it over with.

This would be a decent film if the viewer had never seen a haunted building-type film before. Otherwise, there is nothing new in this whatsoever. If you want a haunted house film, that relies of suspense more than tired effects and gore, seek out "The Changeling".

A simple "don't do that" horror film and, of course, they do it. Film was on a lower budget but I enjoyed it. Nice to see Kelly McGillis of Top Gun fame again.

Liked this movie a lot. The two main characters, who for the most part are the ONLY characters, (a challenge for even the best movies) both do a really good believable job. There was a few seriously creepy moments, but it's a good organic film with little cgi (if any) effects. If you are a true horror fan, i really think you will like this one.

Tells a ghost story very much like they did in the days before CGI scares and effects commonly used today. A bit slow moving for today's audiences, but this film's heart is in the right place, and I did find it chilling. Call me an old fashioned film lover , but I enjoyed this one.

The movie was very cheaply made cheaply acted also in other words, it was a dumb movie. If it was supposed to be scary. It didn’t scare me. I suppose it was meant for adolescent girls 12 and younger.

Claire: "...Why do you have to be such a... bummer... And why do you have to be so negative!" Luke: "I'm not negative -- I'm a realist. There's a difference." Claire: "Pessimist." Luke: "Pessimism is just a higher form of optimism. If you expect nothing from people, then you go through life being pleasantly surprised."
