I enjoyed reading Renegades because of the characters, the plot, and the amazing writing! In this world, people who have amazing powers are called prodigies and the Renegades are the superheroes everyone looks up to. I loved the variety of abilities the prodigies had and all of the characters' personalities. Renegades is one of my favorite books of all time and the entire journey was awesome! I loved this book so much!

The interesting thing about this book, and series, is that the reader doesn't know who is good and who is evil. Meyer delves into the personalities, wants, and backgrounds of many characters, and just when you think someone is good or bad, she makes you question your answer. It's a very unique twist on the good versus evil trope that keeps the reader on their toes.

So I had to read this book for my book club. I wasn’t impressed at first but then I started listening to the audio book and I absolutely loved it! I enjoyed all the twists and tips and turns. It kept me very involved through the end. I also liked that it was told from a hero AND villain point of view.
It was a very good book

I am a big fan of Marissa Meyer and Rebecca Soler, so I knew I simply must listen to this book in audiobook format. Soler's performance was stellar as always, but this particular book didn't really showcase the breadth of her talent like other books written by Marissa Meyer have. There was not a lot of character voice variance, though this was partially because the second POV was narrated by a second performer.

As for the story itself, I have to start by saying that I really enjoy Meyer's ability to write emotional origin stories for villains. This book sort of falls in that category, though I would not compare it to Heartless or Fairest. This book is written in two POVs, and this worked really well for this particular story, because it really highlights the blur between the hero and villain narrative. Both characters are fundamentally good people with radically different experiences and ideas. This puts them at odds, and while society worships one, they demonize the other. This creates some intriguing conflicts, and leads to a lot of character development.

Despite it's many merits, I would not say this is Meyer's strongest book. I love the X-Men stories, and though their influence is clearly apparent in this book, I found the story dragged a bit long and at some points frustrated me. I found it very odd that the Renegades embraced Nova so completely and she so easily infiltrated their ranks. I also found some of Nova's ideology to be a bit contradictory, and her backstory did not fully convince me that it made sense for her to so whole-heartedly despise the Renegades. The conclusion sort of surprised me, though I had already predicted some of the plot twists. It was more of the manner in which they were revealed that surprised me rather than the actual reveals themselves. Based on the ending, I am strongly considering reading the next book, however, I am in no rush and will be attacking other books in my "to read" pile first.

This book was obsessive. I could not put it down until I finished it because it is so action- packed. It was never boring and I never felt the urge to read ahead, which I do when a book is too slow. There is something interesting on every page. This book has the right amounts of drama, action, sci-fi, mystery and romance to make it AWESOME!!!!!!!!! This book is highly recommended though the cliffhanger is torturous. I gave five stars but there need to be ten

I really enjoyed it, the secret identities, both sides to the story of villains and superheroes. However, the story seemed to go so fast in some parts. Looking forward to reading the next book!

Though I prefer the Lunar Chronicles, I was fascinated by Nova's world and enjoyed the dramatic irony.

I was expecting more from an author who had already written such a successful series and novel. However the book disappointed me. For me, the book is easily explained and summarized in a few sentences. The story and setting and background for the city, powers, and characters have so much potential to bring many good elements in the story, but it did not play out in a way that i enjoyed. Still, I finished this book and the second one. The second installment is better than this one, but not by much. I hope to see the best in the last book.

A really great take on who watches the watchers (or who polices super heroes) with a touch of dystopia thrown in for flavour. An excellent read, and I did not quite see that final twist, so I am ready for book #2.

Will leave rating this book to those who like comic book genres. There are many characters...found it hard to keep track of them all and their very adolescent names. Gave up after a couple of chapters.

One can not be brave if one has no fear

"To be weak," Phobia rasped. "To be helpless."
Ingrid cast him a sideways look. "Excuse me?"
"That is his deepest fear," said Phobia, idly twirling the scythe blade overhead. "To be, in essence without power."
Honey huffed. "How fitting for a self-righteous Renegade"
"Perhaps," said Phobia, the hood of his cloak swaying with a slow nod. "And yet, a difficult fear to exploit against one who has been given so very much of it."

Prodigies are people with powers, each one unique. Most are heroes, some are viewed differently. Nova is part of the anarchists; her parents died because the renegades didn't help; she wants to end the renegades and to do so she begins infiltrating them, but nothing is as simple as it seems.

Sexual Content: There is a gay person in the very first chapter. I did not even finish reading it. I closed the book. That is grose.
