I included in techothriller section because it about an idealistic East German recruited by playing long game KGB to be an illegal agent in America.
Huge personal cost & professional cost on his family & children left behind.
Step by step on learning how to be a spy, how to speak American English, & crafting a legend.
Ditto on getting library card, social security card to finally U.S passport.
Reader only guess what damage he had done in America with going anywhere he wanted.
Chuckled on how disillusioned spy fooled KGB on "divorce", how long FBI took get surveillance permission on "US citizen" because he has right under the constitution or agent taken aback how FBI knew he was a spy.
Chapter on his heartbreaking lesson on Soviet Union history, Stati & KGB in second half of cold war seemed straight out of la Carre novel.
Cautionary tale on a changed man highly recommended on Cold war subject or for spy thriller fans.
The worse part? Russia FSB's still send illegal agents around the world to gather political & technological secrets.
