When Miss Norma was diagnosed with uterine cancer, she was advised to undergo surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Instead, Norma -- newly widowed after nearly seven decades of marriage -- decided to hit the road. Norma took off on an unforgettable cross-country journey with three professional nomads -- her retired son Tim, his wife Ramie, and their standard poodle Ringo -- in a thirty-six-foot RV.

At first glance, I thought the book might be too sentimental for my tastes, but I ended up loving it and its message. A book the authors reference as one that helped shape their thoughts and feelings about end of life issues, and one I think everyone should read is Being Mortal by Atul Gawande. If you like the humor and playfulness of Driving Miss Norma, another multigenerational road trip story that reminded me of Miss Norma’s adventures is The Ride of Our Lives by Mike Leonard.
