This was one of the worst books I've read! Very confusing plot . The ending had so many twists and turns,,it seemed the author couldn't make up her mind. The epilogue was just a "formula" addition...

An enjoyable read. There was a real twist to the ending.

Beatrice Williams never disappoints. Her novels are always a riveting tale of adventure, intrigue, romance and deception. All this and a historical element makes it a fasinating read.

Very intriguing book. I loved discovering that Maitland was once owned by the author's in-law's family. The nod to the book's superb editor was well-earned and deserved.

Who is the good guy? Who is the bad guy? The author kept me guessing through intricately-woven plot twists and purposeful flashbacks.

Spoiler alert: It won't do you any good to cheat and read the last few pages. The letter that begins on page 330 drops a few hints, but there will still be surprises.

Beatriz Williams writes A+ beach books, and this is probably my favorite of hers that she's written in a couple of years. It's more deliberately a mystery than most of her previous work (her books usually have some sort of twist, but they don't feel like they're written so deliberately to confuse as this one clearly was) -- I kind of gave myself a headache trying to figure out what, exactly, was happening. (And I was wrong, so it was wasted effort.) It ties in nicely to both last summer's A Certain Age and January's The Wicked City -- while reading those books is not a prerequisite to reading this, I think it would certainly increase readers' enjoyment. If you're looking for something glamorous and fast-paced and hard to put down to keep you entertained on the beach this summer, this is an excellent choice.
