Made by the director of Miss Representation, The Mask You Live In gives us a snapshot of the pressure boys and men are under to be tough, show no emotion, and rely on no one but themselves.
A feminist anti-male view of masculinity.
All I can say is that I am overwhelmed by this presentation. It looks at a wide range of factors that contribute to many of the issues that we see boys and men facing today. Explored are these questions: Why is the culture woman hating/ over sexed? Where did this thirst for violence come from? Why does the man-child exist? How did these things happen? Why is it continuing? What can we do about it?
A must see for (1) educators, (2) parents of boys AND girls, (3) any one who is unsettled by our cultural violence or (4) who wonders why girls are getting stronger while boys are not just staying the same, but are falling behind, (5) Coaches and sports instructors of boys.
I also think that showing this (*after you preview it) to adolescents may a good conversation starter.
