(The fourth book in the Phryne Fisher series)

I read the books after seeing the TV series, so my impression is distorted by the major impact of fantastic, probably handmade gowns, hats, jewelry, etc., incredible vintage cars and the 19th century architecture of Melbourne. This leaves the books in a huge shadow. I suggest, again, that one read the books before seeing the movies. Again, the characters are charming. I especially enjoy Dot, who is so dear. The plot is a little contrived; it reminds me of a vintage silent film "Perils of Pauline" cliffhanger. It's fun and a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

I love Miss Fisher and her friends. I enjoyed most of this story. I did get bored with all of the anarchist story line and actually skipped part of it.

I had watched the television programs on Netflix that were made in Australia and enjoyed them, always noting that the author and books were mentioned. I decided I wanted to try one and enjoyed the book just as much. They followed the book well, and while I read it I could 'picture' the actors, which added to the fun.

I love this series, but this one was not as appealing to me as the other books so far. I will keep reading the series though!
