It's filled with action packed adventure, just like the movie.

While the events and plot points themselves came together pretty well, the writing style was a bit... detached. Impersonal, so to speak. This may just be a personal opinion, but the author largely failed to capture the emotions of the scenes. All in all, this could have been written better.

The best possible re-start to a dead franchise. JJ Abrams did the impossible and gave us back Star Wars.

"First comes the day
Then comes the night.
After the darkness
Shines through the light.
The difference, they say,
Is only made right
By the resolving of gray
Through refined Jedi sight."

not to bad. :)

* Excellent opening line: "She needed him. And he was nowhere to be found." It piques my interest.

* The book has additional scenes & background info that the movie lacked.

* Reading the book cleared up a few of the smaller questions that I had. (Of course, the larger questions remain, keeping me eager for the sequel.)

The Force Awakens is a great opening to a new era of Star Wars films. While it differs greatly from the first six, already feeling more modern just by the CGI and lightsaber battles themselves, it has the same classic Star Wars feel that makes you want to rewatch all of the other ones. While slow in some places, it takes time to develop the characters and fill in some gaps since the latest chronological film. Princess Leia returns as a General to everyone’s enjoyment and her role in this film, while small, brings back the nostalgia of seeing her on the Death Star for the very first time. Overall, the film embodies what it means to try a new take on a classic film and do it well enough that you’ll watch the next one.@RiverPark of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

The Force Awakens novelization by Alan Dean Foster is a beautifully written and engaging book which adds more depth to the film, 'The Force Awakens.' It follows the perspectives of Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Han Solo, Leia Organa, and Kylo Ren as they carry out their missions: either to destroy or help the Resistance in their search for the missing Luke Skywalker. Personally, I enjoyed the book more than the film--the characters are given a more developed and intriguing side to their point of view--more so on paper--Alan Dean Foster brings them to life, painting their personalities and motives more vividly. I had a hard time putting it down. I highly recommend this book for Star Wars fans and sci-fi readers. I give this book an 8 out of 10. - @papertiger of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

An exciting version of an early script from "The Force Awakens". The book differs slightly from the movie, but gives some interesting insight to characters' actions and a couple of "bonus" scenes not in the film. A nice adaption from Alan Dean Foster.
