This one is okay if you have nothing else to read. It had a bit to much of the supernatural for me. The words "supernatural" usually makes me put a bood back on the shelve but I read this one anyway while waiting for another book. Don't expect a Stieg Larsson or Jo Nesbo level read.

Very good - nice creepy atmosphere - building suspense.
Too bad only two books available from this author.

Really great Scandinavian mystery read! Right up there with Henning Mankel. Very engaging writing. If you like mysterys or Scandinavian Mysterys I highly recommend this. I am going to be looking for more work by Johan Theroin.

I read this book to about 95% through and just could not finish it. I know this sounds strange (and I have a tendency to do this) but I just became so bored. I forced myself to read and although there were some good parts with some suspense to it and eventually lulled down and became unbearable for me. I do not know where the writer wanted to go it seem like he was getting bored and began to just dangle and linger with no direction in sight. (I peaked at who the very end to see who the killer was and I was not surprised in the least.

I really like Theorin's mysteries! This one is probably my favorite. I like that Gerlof is in each novel and is an unlikely mystery solver. This book had more hints of ghosts brought in in a realistic way. I also enjoyed the writings at the heads of some chapters that gave historical stories from the past of the manor house. These books are the "can't put it down type" and, at the same time, the mysteries are revealed slowly and on many different levels. The writing is superb with the descriptions of Oland Island adding a suspenseful, creapy atmosphere.

Another top knotch mystery/thriller by Theorin that takes place on the Swedish island of Oland. This time a new family to the island suffers a tragedy and the mystery of how that happened plus some other crime taking place on the island all comes to an exciting climax during a raging blizzard. Great stuff.
