At thirty-five, Gabriella Graham--"Ella" to her family and friends--has already made a name for herself as a successful portrait artist in London. She can capture the essential truth in each of her subjects' faces--a tilt of the chin, a glint in the eye--and immortalize it on canvas. This gift has earned Ella commissions from royals and regular folks alike. Ella realizes that there is so much more to a person's life than what is seen on the surface, a notion made even clearer when an unexpected email arrives from the other side of the world. And as her portraits progress, they begin to reveal less about their subjects than the artist herself.

A light and quick read, a story I wanted to get back to. Perfect jet lag reading at 3am! Enjoyed it and will look out for other books by this author.

Very enjoyable novel. Isabel Wolff puts a note of realism into her characters and the smaller side stories surrounding the "sitters" or people getting portraits painted were heartwarming and added depth to story.

I read "Vintage Affair"first from the same author, and the 2 books are very similar in plot. After I got to the middle of "The Very Picture... "I almost gave up, as everything seemed very predictable, but if you are reading this author for the first time, you probably will enjoy. I was expecting more, so got a bit disappointed.

A nice story with likeable characters that was written in a conversational way. The ending was very transparent but I enjoyed it anyway.

This novel is a quick, light read with a happy ending for all, but it is engaging all the way through. It has various personality traits that you will recognize or have encountered in people you know. Highly readable and entertaining.
