Brooke Shields explores her relationship with her unforgettable mother, Teri, in her new memoir. Brooke Shields never had what anyone would consider an ordinary life. She was raised by her Newark-tough single mom, Teri, a woman who loved the world of show business and was often a media sensation all by herself. Brooke's iconic modeling career began by chance when she was only eleven months old, and Teri's skills as both Brooke's mother and manager were formidable. But in private she was troubled and drinking heavily. As Brooke became an adult the pair made choices and sacrifices that would affect their relationship forever. And when Brooke's own daughters were born she found that her experience as a mother was shaped in every way by the woman who raised her. But despite the many ups and downs, Brooke was by Teri's side when she died in 2012, a loving daughter until the end. Only Brooke knows the truth of the remarkable, difficult, complicated woman who was her mother. And now, in an honest, open memoir about her life growing up, Brooke will reveal stories and feelings that are relatable to anyone who has been a mother or daughter.

I am enjoying Brooke's book. She is bold and explains how difficult it was growing up a child star with an alcoholic mother. My heart bled for Brooke knowing she never showed this side to her fans and public. A must read it.

Didn't even complete this book. I couldn't. It was a hard read. Most of it was talking about alcoholism and not really understanding and in a way making excuses as if its okay to be that way. I know our mother's are our mom's no matter what but this just seemed down in the dumps. Trying to make excuses for behavior of other's didn't sit with me and I tossed it for a better read.

I don't get why she had to write this book. Why air dirty laundry? Most of the book is about her mother being drunk. She doesn't cover much about her own life (2 marriages, etc.). No mention yet of having to make 2 billion commercials for money (toothpaste, la-z-boy furniture, eyelash medication, etc.)

Its appalling how she describes her Mother's last moments. This really is a "Daughter Dearest" kind of book. She seems so high and mighty for a second rate B movie actress. She is resentful and demeaning. I was growing tired of her "disses" of other more famous people. Best Seller my foot!!

Even when you think you do, you really do not know much about another person's life until you have walked in that person's shoes. Or read his/her book. And I suggest you read this one. Brooke has done a marvelous job with the book and with her life.
