Now a Hallmark Original Movie!
"This is classic romance at its very best." --DEBBIE MACOMBER
Once Upon a Prince, the first novel in the Royal Wedding series by New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hauck, treats you to a modern-day fairy tale.
Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess--just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn't going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life.
The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simons Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family's tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna's aid under the fabled Lover's Oak, he is blindsided by love.
Their lives are worlds apart. He's a royal prince. She's an ordinary girl. But everything changes when Susanna receives an invitation to Nathaniel's coronation.
It's the ultimate choice: His kingdom or her heart? God's will or their own?
"[A] surprisingly believable royal-meets-commoner love story. With only a subtle nod to Cinderella, this modern and engaging tale follows the budding relationship of an American Southern girl and a pseudo-Brit prince . . . Hauck fans will find a gem of a tale." --Publishers Weekly starred review
"Rachel Hauck's inspiring Royal Wedding series is one for which you should reserve space on your keeper shelf!" --USA Today

I've looked at this book a few times and I really wasn't sure it was for me. Boy was I wrong! I loved it! An unpretentious modern-day fairy tale that will sweep you off your feet. It's sweet, funny and imaginative - all the important elements in a good fairy tale. It's a tricky thing to pull off successfully, to draw your reader in and have it feel believable but Rachel Hauck did the job.
Susanna isn't looking for a fairy tale romance, she just wants to marry the guy she's been dating for 12 years, or thinks she does. That ends abruptly, as he's "found the right ring but not the right girl." Ouch. Whatever can go wrong does go wrong and she finds herself working at her parent's Rib Shack restaurant wondering what to do with the rest of her life. She is a planner by nature, but decides to commit to nothing and let God determine her steps.
Prince Nathaniel is vacationing on St. Simon's Island under an assumed name, and unlike Susanna, thinks he knows exactly what's going to happen for the rest of his life. His father is ill and he'll be taking over the responsibilities of the king. His life has been laid out for him and it would be nice to have some freedom.
The theme throughout the story is finding your contentment in God, not your job, your relationships, not anything else but God. I not only loved the storyline, I loved the way it was told, the way the author strung her words together. I was pleasantly surprised and I will be reading other books by this author for sure.
I received this book from Netgalley and Zondervan for the purpose of an honest review. My opinion is my own. Thank you Zondervan!
