Carol Danvers has very quickly become one of my all time favorite superheroes. Outspoken and bold, and with a support cast to match (Jessica Drew - Spider-Woman; Wendy - A student who reminds the characters of a caffeinated version of Pepper Pots; Tracy Burke - A cancer fighter, no-bull$% older lady). The series just keeps building on what already is a great protagonist.

Second volume in the new series introduces a new wrinkle into the equation for Carol, in the form of a health issue that is hindered by her flying. The story here also includes a former Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, who's been underused in recent years, and plays around with the dynamic between the two women. The art is problematic at times, particularly in the second portion of the collection. Still, Kelly Sue DeConnick's writing and gift for characterization is so strong that it more than makes up for it.
