Jacob Reckless journeys to the Mirrorworld to tell his shapeshifting friend Fox that a fairy curse--a deadly moth in his chest--means he has only one year to live. The journey in Mirrorworld turns into a search against time and against a Goyl treasure hunter for an enchanted crossbow, which is known to strike down any army it faces, and less well known for its healing power when shot by a loved one.

I liked the 1st book better but I have high hopes that it'll get better in the upcoming books!!! 13+ A brutal take on fairy tales. With his impending doom hanging over his shoulders Jacob must try to save his own life without losing it to something worse. And who is this mysterious guy who knows about fairy tales yet is from the real world?

The second book in the Mirrorworld series, published as both *Fearless* and as *Reckless: Living Shadows*. This is a deeper and more developed novel than the first. We see more of the Mirrorworld and realize that it is changing rapidly. Modern technology like guns, airplanes, and trains are coming into Mirrorworld; but no one knows who is developing them. Magic beings are being driven away from their homes by foresting, mining, and development of large cities. Jacob’s act of saving his brother has resulted in a death curse on himself, placed there by a former fairy lover that he left. He has searched both Mirrorworld and our world for a cure but he hasn’t found one, and time is running out. There is one last chance – a magic crossbow which can kill thousands with one shot – or possibly save one person’s life. He is not the only one searching for it, because such a weapon could change the balance of power in the Mirrorworld. Fox is now aging faster than Jacob is, so they have become the same age. He can’t allow a romance because he thinks he will die soon. This book is much more intense than the first one with real doubt as to who will survive. It’s impossible to stop reading. A terrific creation.

Better than the first book in the series with a better understanding of the characters and the ultimate goal.

This sequel to Reckless was quite literally one of the best books I've ever read. From the amazing story line to the relatable characters. Looking forward to other books by Cornelia Funke~

Add a Summary

"in order to save his brother in the first book he speaks the Dark Fairy's name which brings a curse upon him, in order to save himself he searches for a crossbow that will (hopefully) free him from the curse before it kills him with the help of a beautiful shape-shiftier named Fox he had saved when they were young. Oh, and they also have to get it before another treasure hunter gets it first.

Overall, this book was about Jacob, the main character, and his sidekick Fox trying to find a cure for the curse Jacob got for speaking the name of the Dark Fairy. They try with various items like the All-Healing Apple to the blood of a northern Djinn. Then, the hear about a crossbow that kills thousands and heals one, and just wait to see how that all turns out~
