This memoir by Dan Rather--one of the most pre-eminent journalists of our time--is told in a straightforward and conversational manner and narrated by Rather himself. Rather--who has won every prestigious journalism award in his distinguished career--discusses all the big stories from his decades of reporting. This very personal accounting includes (but is certainly not limited to) his dismissal from CBS, the Abu Ghraib story, the George W. Bush Air National Guard controversy, his coverage of the JFK assassination, the origin of "Hurricane Dan," as well as inside stories about all the top personalities Dan has either interviewed or worked with over his remarkable career.

I remember Dan Rather from when I was a kid watching the CBS evening news with my parents. Now in his 80’s, Dan Rather tells his story sweeping through President Eisenhower to Obama along with some of the biggest news stories of the times. His lifelong, tenacious belief to report the truth no matter what, regrettably led to his being fired from his long standing anchor position at CBS. Some of the highlights of his autobiography, besides his suing CBS, are his insights on the war in Afghanistan and the cryptic role Pakistan played in the death of Bin Laden. Narrated by the American icon himself, Rather Outspoken, raises awareness on how the media increasingly controls what we see and hear in the news. Informative and inspiring.
