After centuries of strife, the seven powers dividing the land have worn themselves down into a stalemate. The monstrous King Joffrey is dead, and the Northern rebels are scattered. Into this blasted peace, however, come the scavengers, outlaws and renegades, who have been waiting to pick over the remnants. Daring new plots and alliances are formed, and personalities new and old have emerged from the struggle to take up new positions. It is a time for nobles and commoners, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and sages to come together and stake their fortunes-- and their lives. They must gather the skills, power, and magic needed to prevail.

I'll also chime in that the Audiobook is amazing, even if it's not the best of the series, it's still great entertainment and continuation of the story.
People's comments about Roy's variation in her voice...while different, isn't as jarring as they indicated, like all the hundreds of voices he does....you get used to it in minutes.'
I enjoyed the story.

Number 4

Most fans complain that A Feast for Crows is the worst book in A Song of Ice and Fire. Honestly, they are probably right. However, Roy Dotrice's performance brings the audiobook to life in a way that vastly increases the entertainment value. While the book was boring and blodding at points, the Audiobook never truly suffers. I might even suggest that this is one case where the audiobook is genuinely better than the actual book. Well done.

As everyone else has said, you really should listen to the Roy Dotrice version. I listened to the first three books narrated by him and have not even yet gotten through that prologue with John Lee and I'm giving up. His reading style is unlistenable.

I was really pleased with the narration for the first three books by Roy Doltirce. Book four, however, is not consistent with the other three books. Many of the voices change, including Arya's, Sam's and Petyr's. Even the character's names are pronounced differently. I found this very distracting and it pulled me out of the story. To be fair Roy Doltrice was 88 for the recording of the fourth book and 11 years had past since he'd recorded the other three books. All in all, I still prefer Doltrice over Lee.

The Ottawa library has two versions of this audiobook.

One is a CD version made in 2005, with bad reading.

The other is a downloadable version, made in 2011, read by Roy Dotrice (who also read all the other books in the series).

The story was really good, but the reading was horrible. He changes the voice for Petyr halfway though the reading and switched back and fourth with the pronunciation of the names.

This one seems to be an older version (done in 2005) there is a new one read by Roy Dotrice (done in 2011).

This was really hard to get into. Not only is it a different (inferior) narrator, but the story is not as enjoyable. Thank god it's short. Most of the main characters from the previous books are absent here and the new characters are boring throwaways. Honestly you could probly skip this book all together (I wish I had...)
