One of my favorite biographies; what a courageous, smart woman! I love the way she compensated for her mother's indifference, also that she learned how to butcher hogs after having lived at Versailles.

A very readable account of the transition from autocratic monarchy to fledgling democracy in France, America and western Europe by an eye-witness.
