"Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th" is one of the most comprehensive books on a movie series I have ever read. Essentially a coffee table book, it covers the original "Friday the 13th" all the way up to "Freddy vs. Jason" (as well as the unrelated syndicated TV series of the same name) in great detail. The narrative takes the form of an oral history with detailed accounts from the people involved in the movies from the creators, producers, directors, cast, and crew. These multiple perspectives give great insight into how movies are made and how these movies defined the horror genre of the 80s. Battles with the MPAA ratings board makes up some of the most interesting discussions regarding each movie, detailing the cuts and deleted scenes that were removed in order to receive an R-rating. Some of these scenes have never been seen while others have appeared on various home video releases and YouTube. If you want to have the ultimate "Friday the 13th" movie marathon, I recommend reading one section at a time and then immediately following that up with the corresponding movie. You'll notice the little things that you may never have seen in each film. After you hit the final sequel (or the reboot movie, which can be skipped,) you should watch the six hour+ companion documentary also called "Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th." All of this should take you well into Sunday the 15th.
