What a fascinating book for anyone who lives in Vancouver and is interested in the history of their city, or neighbourhood. Exhaustive details from archives describing how the city came to be--neighbourhood by neighbourhood.
Typically, Vancouver's first origins were part of a real estate scam! (Politicians in 1884 not disclosing negotiations with the railway to extend the line past Port Moody--which was originally to be the terminus station--to "Granville/Coal Harbour". The politicians and their friends cashed in on the surrounding real estate, and the people owning land in Port Moody got left holding the bag!). In fact, real estate seems to be the dominant factor in almost every neighbourhood. So, little has changed in Vancouver.
Great book, and photos--I found myself visualizing each current part of Vancouver vs. the descriptions, photos and maps in the book.
