Charlton Heston plays a cop in this 21st century science-fiction horror story. The setting is New York, teeming with 40 million citizens, most of whom are out of work. Environmental erosion is almost complete and voluntary death is encouraged by government-sponsored clinics. For their food, the people have grown to rely almost totally on a greenish, wafer-like substance called soylent. As Heston investigates the murder of a magnate in the dictatorial Soylent Company, he comes face to face with the hideous truth about the secret ingredient of "Soylent Green."

This was eye opening, and funny at the same time!

A very cryptic science-fiction thriller. It's one of the draconian "New World Order" propaganda predictive programs about overpopulation."Blood Sacrifices" and "Organ Harvesting" in real life are way more frightening than this celluloid will ever be though.

Unfortunately, a potential future. Poignant concept. Certainly an older movie.

A typical 1970s movie with a warning statement. I thought it was rather dumb when I first saw and it is still dumb when I saw it 50 yrs. later.

This movie shows us the future of city life. Our city here already starts to become a precursor of such city life, with the housing crisis and the increasing number of homeless in the streets. I am writing now to call your attention to the role of the Old Chap in the movie, who volunteers for being eliminated by voluntary, assisted suicide. A moving scene, and today it's becoming realistic. Because the law for this thing has been legalized by the Liberals recently, and just now the new leader of the Fed. NDP Party declared that he would expand the criteria for its application. He cannot do it, because the NDP will not be the governing party this year as well, but by saying this he declared that the MPs of the NDP will support such a motion in Parliament. I notice that since Jack Layton the NDP has changed - it is not a Party of the left anymore - and its new leader has said (acc. to Wikipedia), when elected, that the NDP will support the Conservatives in Parliament with their votes, in case a Conservative minority gov. needs them. Looks like our Democracy is eroding, and is being manipulated, and at least the NDP is not what it had been before. Their new leader declared that they will cooperate with the Conservatives in Parliament - how is this for an NDP (sort of leftist) Party? To the commentator who called me a girl down here, I say he/she was mistaken - I am a 76 years old senior and a man. And I have observed many murky things happening so far, and the new role of the NDP is something I don't like to see. Looks like nobody tries to fend for the "less fortunate" now, and therefore a vote for the NDP is lost vote - if someone votes for them this time, instead of the left they will get a Conservative bunch for our government, and so the coming of a Soylent Green era will be faster. Just remember what the Harper bunch did 6 years ago - they tried to take away some constitutional rights (including health care or the citizenship rights of those of them who were born in Canada) of some minority groups. They also want to do away with political correctness, thereby setting against each other the parts of our cultural and racial mosaic and provoke conflict, and then install dictatorial measures. And in our local Metro Van. newspaper I see a disgusting smear campaign against Justin Trudeau, while there is never any negative mention of the Conservatives. Vote Liberal if you don't want that Soylent era to come soon.

Edward g. Robinson's last role. SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...the demos, these days, are the useful idiots that stalin forecast they would be. seriously, when that phrase, 'useful idiots' was used in a recent congressional hearing, one of the other honorables--a black woman--objected to it, as derogatory. if you the reader does not understand why this was sadly risible, well, then, that can only be: par for the course.

I think it's a great movie. Will we soon be eating the homeless? Jenny Durkan may like that plan. Buy in bulk at COSTCO.

Just like Star Wars, The Matrix and Blade Runner - It seems that Soylent Green is yet another one of those humdrum Sci-Fi movies that one isn't allowed to dislike. And, even if one makes some legitimate complaints about said movies, you can bet that the little, cry-baby "snobs-of-cinema" here will automatically label you as a "nit-picker" - Yeah? Well, I'd rather be a "nit-picker" than a snivelling "nose-picker".

This movie is not "humdrum" or sci-fi. It's rather realistic and shows the result of "constant growth." Some viewers did not realize that the biscuit handed out to the crowd of people is made of dead corpses, our hero discovers this. A rather good, if not wonderful movie, but it's worth watching because it shows us the future. This city is starting almost to become like this movie, with the housing crisis and the increasing number of homeless.
