I liked this biography documentary re-enacted history. It is too violent and sexual for kids. Egypt, 48 B.C. Cleopatra is facing palace revolt in her kingdom. She decides to embrace the arrival of Julius Caesar as a way of solidifying her power under Roman rule. When Caesar is led astray by Cleopatra and is killed, she transfers her affections to Marc Antony. She does all that she can to dazzle Marc on a barge fit for a king. But her trick may not work this time around. A web of royal deception and betrayal. Directed by Cecil B. DeMille in 1934 based on Bartlett Cormack's adaptation of historical material, this historical epic drama depicts the life of Cleopatra VII of Egypt.
With sumpteous set design and fine performances by major actors, this film stands out as one of the greatest movies in all time.
Although Cleopatra appears too sexy to be a queen of Egypt, I enjoyed it as an entertaining piece.
If you're a Cleopatra fan, this is a must-see.

Yes. 1934's "Cleopatra" was an outrageously gaudy and extravagant "Cecil B. DeMille" production.

But, all the same - It still managed to be a fairly entertaining slice of pseudo-history (in a cheesy sort of way).

In "Cleopatra" actress, Claudette Colbert (wearing a specially-designed wonder bra) vamped it up, big-time, as the "Queen of the Nile".

But, with that in mind - One does find themselves wondering how such a petty and trivial-minded woman as Cleopatra could have ever reigned supreme as Egypt's powerful and adored ruler.

Released back in 1934 - Cecil B. DeMille's cinematic showpiece "Cleopatra" is a perfect example of ancient history being royally sabotaged for the sake of Hollywood glitz and glamour.

Produced on a whopping "Depression Era" budget of $1 million - "Cleopatra" stars actress, Claudette Colbert (as the title character) who (at every possible opportunity) gleefully vamps it up, big-time, as the seductive Egyptian Queen.

To be sure - This tale of treachery, betrayal, and decadence is pure spectacle where you're soon to find the posturing actors (and their inflated egos) being repeatedly upstaged and dwarfed by all of the extravagantly massive sets.

An amazingly elaborate large-scale production filmed during the Depression in 1934.
