Easy to see why Saudi Arabia would ban this book. Shows the abuse of women, the absurd, oppressive customs the powers-that-be try to impose on women. Also shows their double lives. One way of life hemmed in by "tradition" and sharia law, bartered for in arranged marriages, knowing that expressing an opinion is forbidden, is not appropriate in conversations with men. A completely different life (but still with the emotional scars inflicted as they grew up) when they live in the West, to attend university. This makes the book interesting for those who are interested in psychology, religion, or human rights. Sadly, the narrative itself is very flat, very repetitive. Simple. Would make a great book to pair with Little Women in a class on comparative literature.
