Schlock Value

Hollywood at Its Worst

Book - 2004

In this uproarious, offbeat book, Roeper gives us a whole new set of critical lenses for assessing the movies and the people and the industry that make them. With his characterisitic acerbic wit, he weaves short essays with lists that work together to explain where Hollywood succeeds - and where it so often frustrates, disappoints, and fails us. But while Roeper devotes most of the book to mockery and ridicule, this book is, in the end, a love letter to film.

Aptly titled "Schlock Value" - IMO - That is exactly what this book of babble amounts to - Schlock.

And, the level of schlock spewed out here by Richard Roeper amounts to exactly - Nothing.

I can easily understand why Roeper's total crock-of-schlock book hasn't gotten any rave reviews backing it up.

Roeper is a snivelling, self-loving movie critic who actually proclaims Chris Rock as being the funniest (tee-hee!) funnyman on the planet. (Oh!? Really!!??)

And Roeper thinks that Rock's callous, little one-liner (quote) "Having Paula Abdul judge a singing contest is like having Christopher Reeve judge a dancing contest" is just too-too funny for words.

Well, in direct retaliation to that vile drivel - I'd say that having Arnold Schwarzenegger judge an acting contest is like having Richard Roeper judge a joke-telling contest. (So, there!)
