I first discover TP’s books as an adult and so grateful to find such positive writer for young female readers. I especially enjoy her willingness to introduce meditation and its inner journey for young mages. Daine is an amazing character with an animal connection we can all feel. Look forward to seeing her grow as a mage and person.
Tamora Pierce does a lovely job weaving together fantasy and adventure in a story about a thirteen year old girl. I enjoyed seeing how Daine interacted with the other characters, learned to trust these new people in her life, all while learning how to talk to animals and take their forms. This book was one of my favorites book growing up. I sometimes had difficulties finding books at my reading level that were appropriate for my age, so as a consequence I devoured anything Tamora Pierce wrote. I also got to go to an author talk of hers, which was such a great memory for me.
I wish I had found this when I was a teen - what a great book!
As always, Tamora Pierce's writing is fun and entertaining. This was a nice change of pace from the Song of the Lioness and Protector of the Small Quartets. I love Daine's character, and I can't wait to see how she continues to grow. The other characters weren't as well-developed, so I'd love to see them become more well-rounded.
It's so nice to be back in the world of Tortall. I'll be honest, I was not Daine's biggest fan but she grew on me. This adventure was less interesting but I feel it was building up toward something more. It was fantastic to see Alanna, George, Jon, and their children. I am looking forward to how this story develops and delving into it further.
My best friend and I love Pierce's fantasy series ever since we were in middle school. These were the first female characters that I could really identify with. Strong role models!
Being over a decade years old, Wild Magic, has a completely different feel from the current popular YA novels. I like the straight forward and to-the-point writing style of the book. It's a strange feeling, almost like relief, finding your protagonist sound and ACT like a young teenager, yet still have the maturity that comes with living a hard life. The book is a wonderful start to The Immortals series and I can't to read the next one.
A great book, new magic, we are reunited with some characters from Tamora Pierce's previous series, Song of the Lioness. I didn't think the ending was very good though.
First book of the quartet and it was great from beginning to end. magic, fantasy, intregue and well put together. I loved it
This book is great. If you like reading about magic you'll love this book. I really like Daine's magic.
LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors.
LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!Its a must read for people who like fantasy in medieval ages.Tamora Pierce is awesome!(and so are her books=D)
Love, love, love this quartet! I recently started re-reading this and it's just as wonderful as when I first read it when I was younger.
This series has it all: Fantasy, magic, set in what we consider the Middle Ages (with all that came with that, including knights), great protagonists and antagonists and a fantastic main character in the form of twelve year old Daine who grows and evolves over the four year period during which the books take place.
Read it if you, or someone you know, enjoyed Deltora Quest.
***For fans: "The Dragon's Tale", a short story featuring Kitten, Daine and Numair from The Immortals quartet, appears in Jack Dann's and Gardner Dozois's anthology THE DRAGON BOOK***
