Points of View: How to Balance Multiple Narrators in Your Story with Genki Ferguson

6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
Mount Pleasant Branch

Description

When writing your story, it is crucial to find your character’s voice. Even the smallest choice of words reveals something about your character, their worldview, and the world they inhabit. A voice is what first leaps off the page, and is what readers remember long after the last line. Writing one point of view is tricky enough. But what do you do when you have multiple?

In this workshop, we will learn how to balance the multiple perspectives in your story. We will go over common hurdles writers face in juggling POVs, and some strategies for tackling these problems. Whether it’s learning how to distinguish your characters, how to balance their narrative weight, or even learning some practical tips to keep yourself organized as you write, this workshop will be helpful at all stages of the process. When it comes to perspectives, less isn’t always more!

This class is generously funded by the Canadian Poetry Fund a local donor-advised fund which fosters accessible public educational outreach for poetry and other forms of creative writing through the services of the Vancouver Public Library.
