September: Black Holes: what are they, where are they, and how do we know?

The last ten years have brought major advances in humanity’s understanding of the most extreme objects in the Universe: black holes. We’ll explore what we know about black holes and how researchers have made these discoveries. Come learn about black holes and what they can tell us about our Universe and how it evolved.

Presenter: Jess McIver

Dr. Jess McIver is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of British Columbia and a Canada Research Chair in Gravitational Wave Astrophysics. She recently served as the Deputy Spokesperson of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration.
