Max Porter: The Death of Francis Bacon

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

We’re excited to present British literary sensation Max Porter in conversation with culture writer Dorothy Woodend.

Max Porter’s debut novel, Grief Is the Thing With Feathers, won the International Dylan Thomas Prize, was adapted into a play, and has been translated into twenty-seven languages. His second novel, Lanny, was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2019, hailed by The Sunday Times as a “remarkable feat of literary virtuosity”, and is being adapted into a film starring Rachel Weisz.

Dorothy Woodend is the culture editor for The Tyee, and a renowned arts and culture critic. Her writing has received numerous awards, including the Max Wyman Award for Critical Writing in 2020.

They will be discussing Max’s new, experimental novel, THE DEATH OF FRANCIS BACON, which takes readers inside the mind of the famed British painter in his final days.

This event is presented in partnership with The Tyee:
