Omar El Akkad's American War imagines a United States at the outbreak of a second Civil War triggered by an environmental catastrophe. El Akkad is an award-winning Canadian journalist of Egyptian background, reporting on the war in Afghanistan, the Guantànamo Bay trials, the Arab Spring, and the Black Lives Matter movement.
