Books I Read in 2011 Part 3
Annotation:Nora was kidnapped and missing for a month and when she is found she has no memory of the last 5 months, she doesn't even know who Patch is. Her memory loss is a part of a deal that Patch made to keep her safe. Now going by the name Jev, Patch is trying to stay away, but Nora always finds herself in trouble. Finally, he tells her everything and they begin to fall in love again. Together they fight the most evil villian of all, who happens to be closer to Nora then she ever imagined. Really good installment in this original series, one of the best angel series out there.
Annotation:Ever wonder what it would be like to witness an exorcism? Bridget Liu knows, she can perform them and has been doing so with the help of a priest at her school. The increase of demon possession in her town is startling, and she can tell something is brewing. Throw in the affection of Matt, her childhood friend and secret crush and you get an exciting, and riviting thriller combined with a sweet romance. A perfect combination if you ask me!
Annotation:Lola is bizarre, in a cute and original way. She lives in San Francisco with her gay dads and awesome older boyfriend Sebastian. When her old friends move back in next door, Lola's life is suddenly more complicated. Cricket was her best friend and first love, but he rejected her and seeing him again is too painful. But maybe, just maybe there was a reason he did what he did, and maybe Lola will give hime another chance. Incredibly sweet and original, the voice of teens in this novel is so true, I loved it.
Annotation:Zoe is a pyr, a dragon shape shifter...even more so she is the Wyvern, the only female dragon. This is a ton of pressure for a girl who has no powers yet. When her powers begin to show unexpectedly and she can't control them, her father sends her to boot camp with the other Pyr, on of whom is Nick, her secret crush. Enter her insecurities, magic spells and Nick's infatuation with someone else and you have a pretty intense situation. Then Zoe meets Jared, and intense human that believes in her. When all the pyr are kidnapped she is relied upon to save the species. A great dragon read that was very quick paced and interesting.
Annotation:A future without chocolate is hard to believe, but that is the case in 2083, chocolate is illegal. Anya's father is a mob boss, one of the few families left that still make chocolate. When her father dies and her grandmother falls ill, Anya is suddenly thrust into the family business, even though she is only in high school and has to take care of her younger sister and her older handicapped brother. When she finds herself falling for the new DA's son, her life totally spins out of control. I loved this story, the premise is a little crazy, but the writing is beautiful and the family dynamics are inspiring.
Annotation:Sequel to Nightshade. Calla has been kidnapped by her enemies, but instead of raging against them she accepts their idea of an alliance in hopes of together defeating the true enemy, the Keepers. Shay is the Scion and now that he's been turned into a wolf, their bond is even stronger. Calla cannot shake the feelings she has for Ren and she wants to save the rest of her pack, but will they even listen to her after she betrayed them so badly. A rescue mission ensues and as they try and save her pack from the keepers many lives are lost, and when Calla sees her betrothed Ren again, the feelings bubble up again. A little slow at first, but the last 200 pages are very exciting, I'm looking forward to the next installment.
Annotation:New York is ruined in the post-apocalyptic story. Lucy is alone, her entire family lost to the plague. She lives alone in the wilds, struggling every day to survive. When she meets Aidan, the first human she has seen in months, she is very skeptical of his band of surivivors. When a natural disaster destroys her home, she has no choice but to seek out Aidan for surivival.
Annotation:Anna's mom committed suicide by walking into the ocean, now her Dad has moved them both back to that exact beach. Anna tries to come to terms with her mom's death, as well as answer the many questions she has about her parents. She's also falling for a local lifeguard that will help her through it.
Annotation:Ally Ryan is rich, gorgeous and popular, however, when her dad is convicted of a ponzi scheme, stealing money from her friends parents, Ally and her mom are out of there asap. It's two years later and Ally has returned to Orchard Hill in hopes of starting over, but her ex-friends haven't forgotten and are cruel to her. The only bright spot is Jake, he came after Ally left and doesn't hold the same animosity for her. Can they really work out when everyone hates Ally? Not to mention Jakes' betrayal.
Annotation:Sequel to She's So Dead to Us. Ally is going to the shore to get away from her cruel friends, especially Jake. She's also hopeful of getting her parents back together. Mix in a romance with a local at the shore and you have a recipe for disaster. Meanwhile, Jake is so sorry for his betrayal and wants nothing more then to be will Ally again...but then there is Chloe, showing interest in Jake, leading to a very big mistake. Things aren't easy this summer at the shore!
Annotation:Part of the Fuentes Brothers Trilogy. Luis is the youngest brother, and the one with the highest aspirations, he wants to go to school, get to good grades and be an astronaut. He has the same danger streak as his brothers, but doesn't resort to gangs. Luis meets Nikki and it's an instant attraction, but she's dated a gangbanger before, and will never do it again. Luis has to lie when he joins the gang. Interesting story, lots of profanity, drinking and sex talk. I really enjoyed this series, I think that it is very real and raw and exciting.
Annotation:Great retelling, or actually reworking, of Romeo and Juliet. Imagine if the love tragedy of Romeo and Juliet was fake, and what really happened was that Romeo murdered Juliet in a quest for immortality and instead they are both constantly reincarnated in teenagers bodies. That is the case in the creative retelling. Juliet is sworn to protect true love, while Romeo is determined to destroy it. They replay this story over centuries until Juliet finds herself in Ariels body, and in love with the soul mate she is destined to protect.
Annotation:Elise and her sisters have been uprooted from their quite stable home to an upscale school in L.A. that their mom is now a principal at. Her older sister Julianna instantly falls for Chase, and Elise has a love hate relationship with Derek, the son of a famous movie star. This is a classic retelling of Pride and Prejudice, a little predictable but a fun read none the less.
Annotation:Amy and Phin belong to the Goodnight family, one rich with history in witchcraft, ghosts and other paranomal oddities. They are spending the summer on the TX farm of their aunt Hyacinth. During the summer they get embroiled in a ghostly mystery on the neighboring farm of the McCullough's. And then there is Ben McCullough, the rough and tumble cowboy that hates all things supernatural and is very skeptical, but finds himself drawn to Amy anyways. Amy has to navigate a ghost mystery and her feelings for Ben as well as coming to terms with her own powers. The TX setting was very well described and worked perfectly with this unique and engaging paranormal mystery.
Annotation:Excellent description of Ireland. Megan has moved to Ireland with her dad to and starts a new school. She is instantly attracted to Adam, a local bad guy that seems to be avoiding her. What she doesn't know is that they are both part of a prophecy and are destined to be together. I loved this book, I thought the writing and description were great and the romance was very steamy!
Annotation:Azalea is the oldest of 12 sisters in this retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses. While the story is well-known, this offers a great new voice. I thought the writing was elegant and well done, and the fairy tale retold in an exciting and modern way. From the innocence of the sisters to the creepiness of the The Keeper, the story has it all. The audiobook was amazing.
Annotation:Sequel to Paranormalcy. Evie is with Lend and trying to live a normal high school life, but it's just too boring, she misses the life of the IPCA. When Raquel comes back and ask for her help she agrees, going against what Lend wants...she soon finds herself lieing to him and getting attached to a boy named Jack. What she doesn't know is that he is using her to hatch his own personal vendetta against the fairies. Hopefully she will survive, as will her relationship with Lend.
Annotation:Shay is sick with a very rare and uncurable blood disease. She is used to be the sick girl, unable to run, party or be a normal teenager. When her step-father Martin starts giving her these new blood transfusions Shay feels alive and empowered, she also sees vision from the point of view of someone named Gabriel, she is quickly addicted. When the supply runs out she looks for the source, but doesn't expect to see Gabriel held captive. Together they escape and try to find answers, all while be chased by Martin. This unique vampire tale is suspensful and exciting.
Annotation:Sequel to Hex Hall. Sophie isn't a witch, she's a demon and they are being hunted. She moves to council headquarters with her dad to be safe, but they couldn't be more wrong. Then Archer, the traitor returns, how can she be in love with her mortal enemy?
Annotation:Sophie is a troublemaker and when her magic gets out of hand she is sent to Hex Hall, a boarding school for supernatural teenagers. Sopie is a witch, at least that's what she has been told. She meets Archer and can't stay away, even though he has girlfriend. When it seems they may get together, she faces the ultimate betrayal by Archer and her entire life at Hex Hall begins to unravel.
