A few people recommended this but I just couldn't get into it. Too much description, not enough plot or credible action ! It lost me by the second chapter. -Life is too short to read dull books !

Eisler's John Rain action sequence (7 books) is among the best thrillers I've read -- as good as Bond or any other current spy thrillers. Barry Eisler worked in CIA operations over ten years, lived in Japan, and has a judo black belt. He's an expert in weapons and all the modern spy tech. Incredible detail, with nail-biting suspense and romance - a plausible Bourne. Have fun.

The Martial arts in this book was the only reason I read this! Barry Eisler could have left out the sexual cotent!

Had a hard time not liking this one. The opener to one of my favorite series in the genre.

A strange and aloft book. Hard to catch, bizarre with shadowy characters in somewhat unbelievable situations. Rain remains somewhat cartoonish.

'...the sadness of being human...' "I took a walk on a winter night...and watched the silhouettes of the tree branches against the sky. I had such a strong awareness that one day, I was going to be gone, but the trees would still be here, the moon would still be above them, shining down, and it made me cry, but a good kind of crying, because I knew it had to be that way. I had to accept it because that's the way things are. Things end. That's mono no aware."

Now...they resolved to go back to their own land; because the years have a kind of emptiness when we spend too many of them on a foreign shore. But...if we do return, we find that the native air has lost its invigorating quality, and that life has shifted its reality to the spot where we have deemed ourselves only temporary residents. Thus, between two countries, we have none at all...
