Quotes
Add a QuoteQueen Victoria: "We will take care of each other, won't we?" Prince Albert: "Always."
Princess Victoria (playing chess with Prince Albert): "Do you ever feel like a chess piece yourself? In a game being played against your will?" Prince Albert: "Do you?" Princess Victoria: "Constantly. I see them leaning in and moving me around the board." Prince Albert: "The Duchess and Sir John?" Princess Victoria: "Not just them. Uncle Leopold. The king. I'm sure half the politicians are ready to seize hold of my skirts and drag me from square to square." Prince Albert: "Then you had better master the rules of the game until you play it better than they can." Princess Victoria: "You don't recommend I find a husband to play it for me?" Prince Albert: "I should find one to play it with you, not for you."
Queen Victoria (sobbing): "I'm so sorry! I thought I was going to lose you!" Prince Albert: "I don't think he was a very good shot." Queen Victoria: "Why did you do it? So stupid, why did you do it?" Prince Albert: "I had two very good reasons. First, I am replaceable and you are not." Queen Victoria: "You are not replaceable to me!" Prince Albert: "Second, you're the only wife I've got or ever will have. You are my whole existence, and I will love you until my very last breath."
Sir John Conroy: "You're too young! You've no experience! You're like a china doll, walking over a precipice--" Princess Victoria: "Well then I must smash! For it's too late to mend my ways now."

Add a CommentThis is a beautiful movie. It is touching to see love come to those who are often pushed into marriages for other reasons and to those who are born with such huge responsibilities. The costumes and setting are perfect. One reviewer calls the movie "forgettable". It is not. Pay attention to what is going on. Learn some history. And enjoy this story of a girl Queen and the gift she was given in a loving husband. Together they were strong. This movie is romantic, intriguing, and dramatic.
I loved this movie! I totally recommend it for anyone who loves history! But I think this movie is not for children 10 and under. Over all I loved it!
Hmmm, I waited a little while to write this review after I watched this movie because I didn't know exactly how I felt about it. Now, about 1 week later, I'm having trouble remembering much detail about it. So, my review is that this is a rather forgettable movie. There was something lacking (maybe substance and/or character development) and it seemed fragmented and confusing at times with the many changes of location even though they were "labeled". I couldn't (or didn't care enough to) keep track of who was where or consistently reidentify some of the characters. For example; I kept thinking throughout the movie things such as, "Is that her mother? No, that must be her mother....or is that a maid?" The occasional subtitles were way too tiny.
Beautifully filmed period drama that gives a good portrait of Victoria and Prince Albert. There are a lot of different plot threads that make it a little confusing at times but overall it is quite good.
I loved this movie, I watched it at the cinema! One scary scene with shooting.
Every English film seems to be about monarchy, just like slaves obsessed with their masters.
An exquisite historical drama, masterfully written by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey). Emily Blunt is delightful as the young and obstinate 'chess piece' Victoria. Captivating. Surrounded by the hidden agendas of many, (relatives, mostly), including her mother, the Duchess of Kent, and her consort, Sir John Conroy (Mark Strong, who seems to be the villain in so many movies lately). A sweet love story, with impeccable period trappings... and basically just an altogether quality film. (F.Y.I. Two of the producers were Martin Scorsese, and Sarah Ferguson(!), former Duchess of York, and ex-wife of Prince Andrew.)
Together they did a lot of good. All in all, a good movie.
This is a film about England. English politics are different from most countrys. All countries have games to play. You find them everywhere. Now you find them hiding in the library book, film comment section for unsuspecting children to read. For it's story I thought it a gave me a different understanding about being raised to monarchy standards and the will to survive.
This is a really good, interesting movie. It shows Victoria in a different, appealing light. Since the script was written by Julian Fellowes, though, the movie does contain a tone of "the masses should be grateful" sort of thing. Additionally, I checked and found that Paul Bettany's character was about 30-35 years older than he's portrayed in the movie. Anyway, the acting's great (Emily Blunt, Rupert Friend, etc.), the pace of the movie is great, and the score is quite moving as well. Well worth watching!
