Add a CommentAfter reading all the great comments about this book I decided to read it for myself. I wish I hadn't bothered. The 'secret' really wasn't much of a secret at all. Plus, in the first part of the book, Sol (a 6 year old boy) describes internet pornography in detail. I was so disgusted that I almost put the book down.
A delicious read that unfolds in surprises and unexpected revelations. You will want to reread it once you are ' in the know' to view the complexities of the story and characters from a different perspective.
The first chapter almost put me off the book, and that is why I didn't give it five stars. Persevere, and you will be rewarded by a great story. I'm reading it again.
Neat narrative, great story.
This is an amazing book that immediately upon finishing, I started again from the beginning. As each successive 6 year old narrator adds another level of information about this family's rich and fascinating history, it explains more of how the later generations were shaped. Reading this book is like both opening a flower and unpeeling an onion.
