Add a CommentA very simple story, as predictable as a Harlequin Romance, just a bit steamier. The steamier parts are a bit tedious after a while. I wouldn't recommend this book as a food read.
Much more acceptable for my tastes (and I have lived and tried lots in my many years- certainly not a prude) than the first book. I am hopeing the last one will be better. Using extreme pain to achieve sexual gratification is sad. It is gratifying to see Christian getting more acceptible to LOVE than PAIN.
This book was bad, I felt that the sex scenes drowned out the story. I found myself skipping pages. I want more story. The first one was better. Looking froward to the third book, hoping she can bring the story back.
OK book, but found it dragged on a lot like the first one. Of course I will read book 3 because I want to know how series ends. A lot of hype for these books, I wasn't very impressed.
For some reason, I liked the first bookbetter, but still enjoyed this read. Looking forward to the third book.
If you loved this first book, then you will probably love this book. If you liked the first book, then you will probably like this one. Same story, same characters (with a couple new ones), but ultimately it's Christan's and Ana's unhealthy co-dependant relationship and their sex life. I personally think these books are ok. They are an escape, a trashy light read, that I tend to choose when I need to something to read but I don't want anything I need to pay that much attention to. Ana was just as annoying in this book as the last (inner goddess references, pathetic and all). I skimmed a lot of pages out of repetiveness but it was fun, easy read. And I'll probably read the third.
A great love story! This one is a little darker but a good follow up. The pace is fast and interesting, a real page turner. I give this five stars and look forward to the next one.
If you believe that people don't change, then you will understand why this book doesn't make sense......
I loved it. I couldn't put it down. Poignant, heartfelt, and insightful. it shows Christian's release from his dark past.
6/11 - After the horror story that was reading Fifty Shades of Grey I had no intention of reading Fifty Shades Darker (which, from the title, I took to be worse than FSoG), positive that I didn't want to read another 'romance' that gave me nightmares due to the constant fear of violence towards the heroine from the supposed hero. But when I was at the library to pick up another book I had on hold I just happened to notice it sitting on the 'recently returned' shelf. Now, I'm a sucker for happy endings and when I saw Fifty Shades Darker I couldn't help but wonder whether it was possible for Christian and Ana to have a happy ending. Well, of course it's possible, the author is in charge of the story, but I wanted to see if the happy ending involved Ana giving in and doing what Christian wanted (not the happy ending I was looking for) or if Christian would be the one to compromise. Also I read another review that mentioned that you had to read the full trilogy before you could get a complete handle on any of the individual books, that you couldn't judge the series after only reading the first book. So as I opened the book and started the first page I said to myself, "This is a horror book, not a romance. If you think of it that way some of Christian's actions might not be so traumatic to read." I was pleasantly surprised to find almost no feeling of menace coming from Christian. If his 'new proposal' hadn't included throwing out the rules and taking corporal punishments off the table I don't know if I would have made it past the first chapter because, as I said before, I couldn't have stomached reading any more of that kind of 'romance.' Christian was much easier to see as the damaged hero in this compared to FSoG, where I simply saw him as a sadistic psychopath who liked to hurt women and call it love. I find it hard to believe that Ana would take Christian up on his offer of a lift to Jose's event, no matter how much she missed and still loved him. She was seriously hurt; emotionally, psychologically and physically (well maybe not seriously hurt physically, but definitely more than should be acceptable in that kind of situation); no woman in their right mind would see him again so soon after an event so traumatic. I have become so sick of the phrase "Good point well made" and if anyone mentions their 'inner goddess' I'm going to throw a copy of FSoG, in hardcover, at them. Also, how many times can a woman be told by a guy that he loves to watch them sleep before it becomes creepy? I read this even faster than FSoG, with only 1 break between 10 pm last night and 4 pm this afternoon and that was for sleeping, so this will be one of the few reviews I write that isn't done in stages over a few days or weeks. I don't think the writing got any better between this and FSoG, but the plot definitely improved and this romance actually has ROMANCE (phew!). While I never want to read FSoG again, I actually enjoyed Fifty Shades Darker and would even consider buying it if I saw if for 50c at my local library book sale, but I wouldn't pay retail for it, it wasn't that good. I just put Fifty Shades Freed on hold at the library and I'm actually looking forward to reading this one.
