Summaries
Add a SummaryIt was quick thinking and a stroke of luck that let Pierce Oliviera escape the Underworld after her untimely demise. She definitely never expected to be back there again, but that's exactly where she found herself two years later and with her original captor, John Hayden, in "Underworld", sequel to "Abandon". This time it's for her protection from the dead souls known as Furies, who seem bent on destroying her. However, is it really Pierce they're after, or the Underworld's ruler? What will these Furies do if they can't get to Pierce herself? And if she's safe from the Furies with John, what other dangers might be lurking in the shadows?
"Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back. Seventeen-year-old Pierce Oliviera isn’t dead. Not this time. But she is being held against her will in the dim, twilit world between heaven and hell, where the spirits of the deceased wait before embarking upon their final journey. Her captor, John Hayden, claims it’s for her own safety. Because not all the departed are dear. Some are so unhappy with where they ended up after leaving the Underworld, they’ve come back as Furies, intent on vengeance…on the one who sent them there and on the one whom he loves. But while Pierce might be safe from the Furies in the Underworld, far worse dangers could be lurking for her there…and they might have more to do with its ruler than with his enemies. And unless Pierce is careful, this time there’ll be no escape." -Taken from Goodreads

Add a CommentOverall, not a bad retelling of a classical myth. There could be more happening for the length of the book, but I am enjoying the modern twist on the classic tale.
How do I begin? This book dragged. Scenes took forever. Nothing really happened in the book, and Pierce and John were kind of sickening together. John is violent, and even when he lies to Pierce, she is eager to forgive him because she "loves him so much" - even though about one, maybe two days previously, she hated him. It bothers me that she's willing to do anything, and forgive anything, for John; it's not a good message for young adults, or anyone for that matter. It sadly reminds me of Twilight in that respect. I usually like Meg Cabot's books, but she disappointed me here - as well as with Abandon. Not only is it slow - slower than I considered Matched and Delirium to be - but none of the characters are particularly likeable and I didn't really feel like rooting for them. Usually I fly through Cabot's books, but this one took me days to get through. I give it two stars. Great idea; poor execution. If it had maybe been condensed into two books as opposed to three, and/or done in a different narrative than Cabot's standard - third person past tense, or first person present tense, maybe - it would've been better.
I absoluteley loved this book! finished it in less then 2 days. I can't wait to read awaken!!!!!
love this book i finished it two days and im a really slow reader, i just couldn't put it down 145 pages one night the rest the next.
Loved this book soooooooo much!! It met and went beyond what I expected!! Can't wait to read the third book Awaken when it comes out in Spring 2013!!! Anyone out there who loves greek mythology with a modern spin and a romance made in the underworld then this is the book for you!
There were parts of the book which seemed unimportant and they always seemed to drag on the longest. besides that however, the book is amazing. I love the development between John and Pierce. I thought the book wasn't at all predictable which I'm so thankful for! I can't stand predictable or unrealistic books. I also love the characters, I really do feel what they do, and I actually wish I could help them when they were in trouble. The best thing though, was definitely the ending because, it gave me what I wanted. It was safe, dangerous, thrilling, and the thing to do at the time. If I were John and Pierce, I would have done the same thing. I enjoy that this book has a huge grasp on love, but not just romance, but actual love. Love for one's family, friends, life, and love for one's self.
A book that left readers wanting more. Probably the best book in the trilogy but I should wait for Awaken to come out before I can compare.
I can't wait for Awaken to come out!! thats the third book in the trilogy
I thought Underworld was better than Abandon. I really liked how it leaves you hanging at the end. I liked how you find out about John's past I can't wait for book 3!
