Add a CommentThis is a very interesting read about autism from the perspective of the parents as well as presenting the voice of a non-verbal autistic child. Very accessible and educational! Carly's voice is clearly heard.
-fascinating and revealing account of how Carly (diagnosed as severely autistic & non-verbal) learns to communicate and explains the challenges of autism herself; a "must read" for educators, therapists, and parents
Great book, easy to read and informational book detailing the lives that families with children with autism go through. Inspirational and an appeal to look at special needs children with compassion, respect and dignity and not dismiss them as non-existent. They have an inner voice too but just not expressed like the neuro-typical children do. Carly's break through has everything to do with her family's refusal to give up, faithful therapists and close friends who continued to believe despite hopeless outer look. My personal hope is ABA would be available for all children with autism as the most effective period for early intervention is 2 to 5 yrs old.
