Quotes
Add a QuoteHemingway: Have you ever made love to a truly great woman? Gil: Actually, my fiancee is pret-ty sexy. Hemingway: And when you make love to her you feel true and beautiful passion and you, for at least that moment, lose your fear of death. Gil: No. That doesn't happen. Hemingway: I believe that love that is true and real creates a respite from death. All cowardice comes from not loving, or not loving well, which is the same thing. And when the man who is brave and true looks death squarely in the face, like some rhino hunters I know, or Belmonte, who is truly brave, it is because they love with sufficient passion to push death out of their minds. Until it returns, as it does to all men. And then you must make really good love again. Think about it.

Add a CommentLoved this movie! One of my personal favourite fantasies, loved the characters - Owen Wilson was perfect as Woody - I mean the neurotic expate confused writer! Not for everyone, I guess, but I found it adorable.
It seems people like this movie or they don't. I did, mostly for the rainy night scenes in Paris and the acting - not the lead characters. All Woody in story and flow. 4 stars.
An interesting look at artists.
Delightful, worth a watch for the brilliant caricatures of great artists and writers alone, especially Adrian Brody as Dali and Corey Stoll as Hemingway. The writing is some of Allen's best, the story is charming, and the casting is strong. Michael Sheen is spot-on as a pompous intellectual, Rachel McAdams is hilarious as the shrewish fiancée, and part of the Hollywood writer, lost and yearning, fits Owen Wilson to a tee. Even those who are not Woody Allen fans can find something to like here.
A very clever, charming, and entertaining movie! Similar to "The Purple Rose of Cairo". One of Woody Allen's best!
I clicked 5 stars because the parody of Ernest Hemingway is worth the watching the whole movie for. Lots of fun in all, and I DO like woody Allen.
Not funny, not interesting, not anything. A paltry plot, with dribblingly dull characters and such uninspired acting...oy vey. Avoid.
I enjoyed watching Midnight in Paris.
2 dimensional characters (why are owen wilson and rachel mcadams even together? she complains all the time and he says "golly gee"). cliched portrayals of well known historical figures. pointless, witless movie.
I really wanted to love this movie but I was left with being slightly annoyed yet it was painless. I'm a huge fan of Woody Allen's and I loved his other 'modern fantasies' such as 'The Purple Rose of Cairo' and 'Alice'. 'Midnight In Paris' is a great idea and the point is well taken but I found the execution rather lazy for the auteur. Still, there's a lot to like, mainly the cast especially Owen Wilson, who plays what would have been Allen's part and Rachel McAdams. The sumptous cinematography of Paris is the best argument ever to visit the city.
