For the past thirty years, David Mamet has been a controversial and defining force in theater and film, championing the most cherished liberal values along the way. His characters have explored the ethics of the business world, embodied the struggles of the oppressed, and faced the flaws of the capitalist system. But in recent years Mamet has had a change of heart. He realized that the so-called mainstream media outlets he relied on were irredeemably biased, peddling a hypocritical, flawed worldview. In 2008 he wrote a controversial op-ed for The Village Voice, "Why I Am No Longer a 'Brain-Dead Liberal,'" in which he methodically eviscerated liberal beliefs. Now he goes much deeper, employing his trademark intellectual force and vigor to take on all the key political and cultural issues of our times, from religion to political correctness to global warming.--From publisher description.

Not many can boast that after so many years on the wrong side (read “Left”) someone finally sees the light and goes to the right side--read, of course, “Right”! Mr. Mamet did just that: he realized he was wrong and courageously went against the left-wing media and his left-wing supporters turned against him like rabid dogs (as one can see right here). Welcome to the Light, Mr. Mamet!

Mix an extremely low comprehension rate, with an absence of knowledge, and you have the recipe for Mamet's book: simply a pile of smelly offal! The past forty years have witnessed the dismantling of the American economy, and other country's economies, in the pursuit of the one-world-bank or one-world-corporation (don't worry about that one-world-government, the WTO Financial Services Agreement establishes that in their de facto manner), but culture America has had in very short supply, hence the existence of a Mamet! Important Note: Mamet's obscene garbage is written many years after the federal court upheld the contention of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, namely that is was legal for them to fictionalize the news. Add to that the majority of radio and TV station owners in the country - - the majority of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) - - signed onto Murdoch's case in a friend of the court brief, completely supporting their contention, and where is there ANY NEWS TODAY IN AMERICA?

First notice the title,THE SECRET.Just another very wealthy white guy who can't see the poverty around him for what it really is namely the corporate destruction of the working class.GREAT PLAYWRITE but a lousy sociologist/economist.Nice pseudo Hemingway pose on the cover though.

Has Mamet gone off the rails ? Some claim it started with Speed the Plow or Oleanna. Some say he develops through oppositional stances. Some say the conclusions land awkwardly where the assumptions started. These opinion pieces doodle with veils, leap canyons, levitate and bait and switch without bothering the facts. Unless you think barking in chorus buys you up, give this one a wide pass. Try his better books, Five Cities of Refuge, Handbook for the Actor.

Simplistic claptrap. Mamet's a great writer of fiction & drama, but he's no economist and his cultural criticism is hamfisted. If you're interested in his economic arguments, go to Sowell and Hayek, who originated them.
