Add a CommentI ended up sort of liking this movie, which is god awful until Nanny McPhee actually shows up. From then on it's watchable and Emma Thompson does a good job in the title role. The deliberate excesses of the movie sometimes weigh it down too much. And Mary Poppins it definitely is not.
An enjoyable family movie, but it might be a little scary for young children.
There is a lot of quirky fun to be had in this film. At the same time, the film contradicts some of its own messages. I felt one message was that we shouldn't judge people by appearances and social class. However [SPOILER ALERT] the movie makes the ugly nanny all beautiful in the end, and the former servant all beautiful and full of upper-class manners. So, what message does this actually teach? I wanted to like the film a lot, but I must confess that I was a little disappointed.
I've seen several movies of Emma Thompson's that i like, but when asked to list them, Nanny McPhee movies are always numbers 1 and 2. And I've seen all the Harry Potter movies, Stranger Than Fiction, Last Chance Harvey, and her version of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
One of the most beloved tale of love, family and happiness. With a twist of fun and adventure, just like Mary Poppins. The nanny seems to be tricky but to help a family be happy once more. The movie is good for all ages.
I enjoyed it, but my four year old thought it was mean and scary.
Really good! Emma Thompson is great!

my favourite character in this movie is the boy in the middle of the DVD cover!!!
