Summaries
Add a SummaryOnce again, Milo has become the new kid at school. Ever since his mom died his dad has been moving both him and his older sister into different homes. Everything from the “Apartment of Endless Stairs” to the appropriately dubbed “Stink Hole (The mystery smell was never found!)”. Milo has found that his dad just sleepwalks through his days, and our hero’s not doing so hot himself. There’s this weird girl at school that keeps bugging him, and then there’s gorgeous Summer Goodman. The kind of gal who would never give a boy like Milo the time of day. However, once he makes a new best friend in a kid called Marshall and finds that the strange girl isn’t that strange after all, Milo discovers that there might be a way to come to terms with his mom being gone, and maybe find a way to remember her too.
I borrowed this book from my local library because looking at the cover of the book, I knew it would be interesting and great to read, which was! This book was so funny.I would recommend this book to kids in grade 5 to grade 8.I wish I could imagine as well as Milo.
I really enjoyed this book. Its about a boy named MIlo.He really misses his mom,who died, and thinks nothing will get better. At school, he meets his old friend Marshall, and a new girl named Hillary. The a nieghbor named Slyia reminds him that even though his mom is dead,he should always remember that she is still alive in his heart. Even though it had lots of funny parts, the part whan he blurts out the truth at home, its really sad I would TOTALLY recomend this book beacuse it is really cool
Quotes
Add a Quote“Apparently, my teeth, which no one was paying attention to while my mom was dead, have kind of gone their separate ways and finally it’s time to rein them in before they migrate into someone else’s mouth.”
“Summer Goodman never knew what hit her. That’s because it was me, and as soon as I collided with her in the hallway – scattering every one of her perfectly indexed index cards – I disappeared into the mob of kids who’d arrived to help realphabetize her life.”
...after the supper that my sister ruined by telling us in detail how she dissected a cow's eye in biology, which did not add any flavor to my steak.
A present.

Add a CommentOne person wrote me about the book saying, “My husband suffered the same loss that both Milo and Alan [the author] did, and reading this book was healing for him like nothing I’ve ever seen, even all these years later.” Some books for kids that talk about grief and closure feel manipulative in how they chose to tug at the heartstrings. Milo, in contrast, is an honest, original, and effectively moving title. Silly packaging on the outside. Big heart and emotional core inside.
Hilarious and touching story. It really seems like the perfect story for a kid who has lost someone. Definite read.
sad but cool story!! hope to read this one soon!! cupcake3000 and popcorn30
It started out funny, but became the saddest book for children that I've ever read.
Loveable thirteen-year-old geek Milo Cruikshank finds reasons for frustration at every turn, from the annoying habits of his neighbors to his futile efforts to get Summer Goodman to realize his existence. The truth is, ever since Milo’s mother died, nothing has gone right.
This book was hilairious and the author must be very funny!
This book is about that Milo mom have cancer and she don't have no hear and she is soooooooooooooooo bull. She had the last hear is when it was Halloween. She died and Milo was sooooooooooooooooooooooooo sad.I learn that you can easy died for cancer.
lol
This book is very good and sad for me because this spends a lot of time describing when he was in the hospital, the last time he would see his mom because of the brain tumor. That was a little too detailed for me. This book's cover is very misleading. You pick the book up and look at it and think automatically that this book is fun. This just enforces the saying: don't judge a book by it's cover. Sad but nice ending. I would recommend this book to Gr.5 to Gr.7 because at the beginning it talks a little about his crush and I don't think young people should be reading much of that, but older kids won't like it beacuse it gets more to a younger audience after that.
It's good. I liked it, but it's still not my very favourite. It did make me laugh at some parts, but some parts were pretty sad. I like how it ends alot.
