It's a shame that even though (Richard Matheson's) storyline had so much potential, with such a strong creative foundation, the film is just covered with too much cheese. The creepy ghoulies that are just plain laughable are a mixture of (ready?): spear-chucking anti-technology Amish-like vampire-ish albino zombies in matching satin monk robes and groovy mirrored sunglasses... whew... And when Charlton Heston isn't walking around shirtless, he enjoys wearing a puffy shirt and a smoking jacket, swirling his brandy snifter. All this, and a Muzak score, too. Hell of an apocalypse. It's too bad, because with a little effort, (and $$), it could've been a lot better. (The best line is when the little girl asks Heston if he's God... LOL!! Moses, maybe...)

Call me a classic movie buff, but for me this is one of the best science fiction films of the period, along with (and strangely enough also featuring Charlton Heston) Soylent Green and Planet of the Apes. This is a must see for any science fiction fan as well as fans of I Am Legend as that is the book that movie is based on.

Is it me, or does Heston play the same character in all his films? How he stays so calm when all those bad guys are trying to kill him is incredible, he must have worked with the A-Team.

Two years after much of humankind was destroyed in a global war with biological weapons, Dr. Robert Neville leads a solitary existence in Los Angeles. Those humans that do remain are pigment-less albino creatures that roam the night destroying what remnants that may exist of the previous civilization. Neville, who had worked on an antidote to the virus, is one of their main targets. By day, he searches for their nests while they sleep. He comes across a small band of survivors, mostly children, but which includes two adults. Having injected himself with his experimental serum several years before, Neville in fact may carry the immunities needed to reverse the creatures' condition. The only question is whether he can survive their constant attacks long enough to prove it.
